PASSWORD MANAGEMENT

Q. What is Password Management?

A. Proginet’s SecurPass password management software helps corporate security administrators, help desk staff and end users manage the complexities of multiple passwords in multi-platform environments. Password management accomplishes this by preventing user down-time due to lost or forgotten passwords. Password management also frees help desk and security administrators from resetting lost or forgotten passwords.

Proginet’s SecurPass was developed specifically for multi-platform password management and is designed to eliminate security problems stemming from poor password management. SecurPass is the premiere password management software today.

Q. What is Password Synchronization (aka sync, synch, synchronisation)?

A. Password synchronization synchronizes passwords and password changes between different information security systems such as RACF, ACF2, CA-Top Secret, and Microsoft Windows NT security, and different computing environments such as IBM OS/390, Microsoft Windows NT domains, UNIX, and Novell NetWare, enabling them to work as one.

Q. What does ‘single sign-on’ mean?

A. Single password sign-on support enables end-users to access the mainframe repeatedly with only a single password sign-on at initial logon. Single sign-on thereby eliminates the need to memorize multiple passwords and cuts the spiralling incidence of forgotten passwords.

Proginet’s SecurPass single sign-on support facilitates 3270 and 5250 automated logon using Microsoft SNA Server.

Q. What is SSO?

A. SecurPass’ password synchronization capability provides the key benefit promised by SSO (Single Sign On) ¬ the elimination of too many passwords across the enterprise. However, SecurPass may be implemented in a fraction of the time compared to SSO, without tying up precious internal resources, and at a fraction of the cost. SSO remains more myth than reality, because of the inherent administrative burden, implementation difficulties and drain on IT resources of SSO.

Q. What does ‘single password’ mean?

A. Proginet’s SecurPass single password sign-on support enables end-users to access the mainframe repeatedly with only a single password sign-on at initial logon. Single password logon to the mainframe eliminates the need to memorize multiple passwords and cuts the spiralling incidence of forgotten passwords.

Q. What about forgotten passwords?

A. Forgotten passwords are a thing of the past with Proginet SecurPass. SecurPass eliminates the need for users to memorize multiple passwords in order to access the many systems they need. SecurPass thereby dramatically cuts the high incidence of forgotten passwords and the drain on help desk staff to reset forgotten passwords.

Thus, SecurPass remains the premiere password management software for forgotten passwords.

Q. What is meant by ‘single logon’?

A. Proginet SecurPass single logon support enables end-users to access the mainframe repeatedly with only a single logon at the initial sign-on time. Single logon thereby cuts the spiralling incidence of forgotten passwords.

Q. Can I still use CFI Internet Server if I’m not using Web Services?

A. Yes. CFI Internet Server includes all functions needed for secure file transfer, including authentication and authorization, file control, file transfer, client applet, and administrative services.

Q. Can I use CFI Internet Server if I’m developing a Web Service application and have already selected another Web Service for authentication?

A. Yes. CFI Internet Server is modular by design and can be configured to call another Web Service for authentication instead of using its own authentication service.

Q. What types of files can I CFI Internet Server send?

A. CFI Internet Server can send virtually any type of file – text, graphic files, binary files , etc. The file size is only limited by the speed of your connection and the time available for your information transfer.

Q. Must my business partner or customer also purchase and install CFI Internet Server to exchange data with me?

A. No. CFI Internet Server will automatically download the latest CFI Internet Server client whenever they connect to your CFI Internet Server. The only thing your business partner or customer needs is a browser.

Q. Do my IT staff or my business partner’s IT staff have to reconfigure firewall’s or open new ports for CFI Internet Server?

A. No. Information being moved by CFI Internet Server is sent in packets that are wrapped inside of HTTP protocol. If your security policies allow HTTP traffic, CFI Internet Server will pass through PORT 80.

Q. Do my business partners need CFI Internet Server to send or receive files from me?

A. No. If they do not have the latest CFI Internet Server client software already installed, it will automatically be downloaded from the CFI Internet Server server and installed after they have been authenticated.

Q. Does CFI Internet Server provide any server validation?

A. Yes. CFI Internet Server provides three levels of security by validating the sending and receiving servers or nodes, the sending and receiving users, and the rights of the sending and receiving user to access the specific file or directory involved in the transfer.

Q. Can I send and receive a file without CFI Internet Server on my desktop?

A. Yes. After you connect to a CFI Internet Server server using your browser and are authenticated, the CFI Internet Server server will determine whether you already have the latest CFI Internet Server client software installed on your desktop. If not, the client will automatically be downloaded and installed.

Q. Can I use CFI Internet Server if my corporate security policies prohibit Business Partners from sending information behind my corporate firewall?

A. Yes. CFI Internet Server can run in your DMZ and allow your Business Partners to send information there. The CFI Internet Server DMZ Gateway will automatically move data to behind your firewall using proxy services to avoid any connection from the outside going directly to your internal LAN.

Q. Can I verify that my data has not been tampered with?

A. Yes. CFI Internet Server can use X.509 Digital Certificates and an industry standard hashing algorithm to verify the data received is identical to the data that was sent.

Q. Can I restrict others from sending me files?

A. Yes. Others may only send you a file if they are a “trusted source” and were given your User ID and password. CFI Internet Server also complies with standard file system security, like NTFS, which can control permissions and access to both individuals’ and network’s files and directories.

Q. Can CFI Internet Server be customized to meet the particular needs of individual clients?

A. Yes. CFI Internet Server can be called as a Web Service to easily integrate with your applications that use Web Services. It is also modular by design and can be configured to call other Web Services if you have standardized on a Web Service for a specific function and do not want CFI Internet Server to use its supplied routine.

Q. Does CFI Internet Server use encryption and compression?

A. Yes. CFI Internet Server allows you to choose from several industry standard encryption algorithms, including AES (Rijndael), and also supports SSL technology. CFI Internet Server performs in-stream, compression using a standard algorithm.
